I grew up with this hilariously massive TV in our living room—so big, it felt like it belonged in a movie theater instead of our house. My mom had won it as a prize in a photography contest, and as a 10-year-old, I thought, "How cool is that?!" Naturally, I decided I wanted to be a photographer, too. (I mean, who wouldn’t want to win a giant TV?)
Soon after, my mom gave me my first camera—a quirky little 110mm point-and-shoot that looked like an ice cream sandwich. I went through roll after roll of film—yes, actual film—snapping pictures of my feet, rocks, chickens, and random moments from family trips. Eventually, my mom had enough of paying to develop my endless experiments. That’s when she handed me her Pentax K1000 and taught me the basics of photography. With it came a new rule: I had to buy my own film.
At first, this felt like a cruel punishment, but looking back, it was one of the best lessons I could’ve learned. It made me slow down and really think about what I wanted to capture—how I could tell a story with each shot.
Fast-forward 30 years, and photography is still my passion. Whether it’s capturing a fleeting moment or creating an image that tells your story, I’d love the chance to bring your vision to life.
